A Founder’s Story

Who doesn’t love a good founder story? So, here’s mine! I’m Anna, first-time Mum to Isla, AKA Isla the smiler but my lord was that not always the way! Picture this, you’ve had a hell of a journey to get pregnant with your anxiety sky-high throughout, surely the rest of pregnancy and motherhood is going to be a breeze, right? Isn't that how life works? Na ah….. quite the opposite. So, after mindlessly scrolling and literally begging for answers, I was left confused, overwhelmed and frustrated as fook, so after yet another day of tears and stuffing my face with anything beige, I finally felt enough was enough, surely there has to be a one-stop shop that was relatable, fun yet informative to help me navigate this new journey of pregnancy and motherhood? But everywhere I looked, I either saw big corporates trying to be small, very serious videos that just made me feel worse (or Sheila, see below for context). So cue preggers me having a moment - luckily not a hormonal one for once - but an enlightened one, one that consisted of me starting my mission to help women feel less like I did and freaking empowered. That’s when my real fuel and I mean strong rocket fuel for starting Bump Haus sprang into action – I just knew I needed to help other women not feel like I did.

I cannot tell you the frustration I felt and still feel around conflicting advice for pre and post-natal women and babies and also misinformation around exercise in pregnancy and early motherhood - mainly on the internet through so called experts, sometimes through dramatic forums (no Sheilia I am not dying for the 300th time today) or even sometimes even in person (coughs*) I'd hate to count up the number of hours I've spent scrolling the internet and Instagram for every niggle, pain, nipple crack and wonder (IYKYK) how the F to get my baby to sleep! And the more I delved the more conflicting it got. The term it takes a village wasn't coined for no reason, yet in our modern world rarely do we have a village to lean on or give us up to date advice. I knew I wasn't alone from speaking to other Mums and other pregnant women starting their motherhood journey, especially if they'd already had a hell of a journey to get pregnant in the first place (hi girl I see you with those bum pessaries), the last thing you need is Sheila again telling you something awful is happening on a forum, or worse getting stuck in an Instagram rabbit hole very far away from what you were searching for in the first place and seeing ‘Pam’ absolutely 'smashing' being pregnant. 

So with my frustration sky high and my mental health dirt low, once I had royally got the t-shirt of being pregnant, birthing my baby and experiencing the first year of motherhood with quite a wild story to show for each step (more on that in the blog) I found purpose in congregating a group of well trusted, incredibly knowledgeably, no questions asked your damn good specialists, as well as myself of course, to keep your body moving, and to give you your village, so you didn't have to waste your pregnancy and precious journey as a new mum scrolling and quieten those feelings of anxiety, frustration and overwhelm. I understand this is a learn-on-the-job job, and often you just need a warm, knowing virtual hug, not just someone saying ‘be positive’. So with our amazing team of experts, we’ve developed an incredible platform to share simple actionable steps, advice and trimester specific Pilates classes for you to take what you need, when you need, so you can continue to be the amazing mum you already are.
